On October 11, 2023, the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) held a ceremony to present a posthumous award to Pauline Chase and Serita Chase, daughters of the late attorney Ashton Chase SC.

A press release from GAWU said that the award was presented in recognition of their father’s outstanding contributions in defending workers’ rights and strengthening the trade union movement in Guyana. The union had decided to honour Chase during its 22nd Delegates’ Congress, which took place in August of this year. Chase died on July 11 this year.

At the Kingston Office of the union, GAWU’s President Seepaul Narine took a moment to reflect on his personal experiences with Chase. He spoke about how Chase had a genuine interest in the well-being of others, always asking about their families and ensuring they were doing well.
