Non Pareil woman charged with causing death by dangerous driving

Nandanie Nimar, 25,  of Lot 260 Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara  was yesterday charged with causing the death of Pulwantie Ramjan by dangerous driving.

Nimar appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court #1 before Magistrate Fabayo Azore where the charge was read to her. She pleaded not guilty and was placed on $250,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until 30th November, 2023.

Nimar was also charged with Breach of Condition of the General Dealers License and Breach of regulation 19 E (ll) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulation Chapter 51:02. She pleaded guilty and was fined $25,000.

The police had stated that the incident occurred at about 6.15 pm on Monday on the Lusignan Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara and involved a motor vehicle with trade plates, KICS 2, driven by Nimar. Ramjan was flung into the air and fell on the roadway. Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene and Ramjan was pronounced dead. A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver showed no trace of alcohol.

Ramjan, 56, of  69 Annandale Railway Embankment had been on an errand to buy some items to celebrate her upcoming birthday.

The deceased woman’s son, Omkar Ramjan, told Stabroek News on Wednesday that his mother stopped off at a supermarket in the Lusignan area after doing some domestic work and purchased some items as her birthday was approaching. She was heading back home when the accident occurred.
