The two men who died when a truck slipped off a bridge and landed in a creek on Monday evening on the Lethem Trail, North Rupununi, in the vicinity of the Canopy Bridge were returning to the trucking company base after collecting stone from Lethem, according to one family member.

Orin Fraser

A family member of Orin Fraser of Tucville, Georgetown, told Stabroek News that he and the driver of the lorry GXX 5420, Orlando King, a 29-year-old from North Rupununi left the trucking company, JR construction Ltd’s base and went to collect stone from Lethem. While heading back, in the area of Canopy Bridge, the truck slipped off the bridge and they both were pinned and suspected to have drowned.

Both King and Fraser were pulled from the cabin of the lorry in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and police ranks. They were placed in a police vehicle and taken to the Annai Health Centre, where they both were pronounced dead. The bodies were then taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital mortuary.
