A pedestrian on Wednesday survived an early morning encounter with a Guyana Police Force (GPF) vehicle when it reversed and ran over her.

The investigation is ongoing into the circumstance that led to the accident which occurred around 6 am on the Mon Repos Main Access Road, East Coast Demerara involving a GPF vehicle attached to the Beterverwagting Police Station, driven by a detective constable, and a pedestrian, Kamlawattie Singh, a 61-year-old of Mon Repos.

Investigations revealed that the ranks were in the GPF vehicle and about to leave the scene of a fire at Mon Repos. As the driver was reversing, the vehicle collided with Singh, causing her to fall on the road. The woman sustained injuries and was picked up in a conscious state and was taken by the same vehicle to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was treated and sent away.

Meanwhile, a notice of intended prosecution has been served on the driver. He was also subjected to a Breathalyzer test which recorded a blood alcohol content of .003% micrograms.
