Eagles crash to 92-run defeat to Windies Academy

In another batting collapse, Guyana Harpy Eagles suffered a 92-run drubbing at the hands of the West Indies Academy in the ongoing CG United Regional Super50 yesterday.

Asked to chase 264 for victory, Eagles plummeted to 171 all out in 35.1 overs. Kevin Sinclair was the sole bright light, hitting a top score of 46 from 56 balls.

The right-handed all-rounder’s innings featured six fours and one six before he was given out leg before wicket to Ashmead Nedd.

Eagles’ captain, Veerasammy Permaul had the next best score of 32 from 27 balls batting at number 10. Permaul stroked five boundaries in an effort to save his team from embarrassment.

Kevlon Anderson had a start but failed to convert it to a big score as he eventually fell for 27. Anderson shared in a 45-run stand for the first wicket with Chandrapaul Hemraj (16). Tevin Imlach also had a start with 17. Ackeem Auguste bagged 4-47 while Nyeem Young returned 3-18.

Earlier, Academy were pegged back with two early blows in the first over but Matthew Forde top scored with 52 from 42 balls, stroking four fours and two  sixes.

Teddy Bishop continued to enjoy success with the bat but fell two runs short of another half-century. He carved out eight boundaries during his 46-ball blitz.

Young also contributed with the bat, hitting a pair of fours and a pair of sixes as he raced to a 44-ball 42. Joshua Bishop and Kevin Wickham contributed 37 and 32 runs respectively.

The wickets were shared among  Sinclair, Gudakesh Motie, Veerasammy Permaul and Shamar Joseph who each took two wickets.
