Disgusting to see garbage piled up in our communities

Dear Editor,

I have been recently heartened by the authorities’ efforts to effect safe energy production with the supply of solar energy units to various areas, although I feel that we need to further make use of this by introducing these to households, via panels on their rooftops, as well as industrial and commercial units. This would not only contribute to less energy costs, but would help the power company to stop or lessen the need for blackouts, which have been especially bothersome in recent times.

What I think should also be energetically pursued in this effort at environmental protection is the proper disposal of garbage which we all know to be continually polluting our surroundings.  It is so disgusting and disappointing to see plastic and metal containers piled up in our communities that contribute to the wastage of our natural resources and can also be unhealthy and unsightly.

I have previously advocated for our garbage to be disposed of properly by separation into the various categories – recyclable items, which will tremendously benefit our manufacturers in the reuse of these items, paper and other combustibles, which are disposed of by burning and placing into the garbage sites, and other household waste that can be turned into compost. I sincerely hope that the relevant authorities seriously consider this, and so make an exceptional approach to this means of environmental protection.

Sincerely,

Roy Paul
