The Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Division in Jamaica’s Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce, is reportedly pulling out the stops to persuade owners of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to secure investments grants and other facilities to support them in the growth of their business operations.

The circumstance in which the CARICOM member state finds itself is by no means a common condition in the Caribbean where some cash-strapped territories are less that strategically positioned to echo the call to small business owners in their own territories.

At a recent Young Entrepreneur Association of Jamaica (YEA) summit titled Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence – Keys to Building Better Businesses’ attendees were provided with information on government’s support for young entrepreneurs through a facility that allows for the duty-free importation as well as income tax relief on equipment and raw materials for businesses. During the session small business owners were urged to capitalize on this opportunity to grow their businesses.
