The Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) secured wins when the KFC League Cup continued on Sunday evening at the Eve Leary Ground, Kingston.
GPF arrested the Western Tigers 3-1 in the marquee matchup of the doubleheader. Travis Henry opened the scoring in the 27th minute, uncorking a half volley into the back of the net after latching onto a cross from a right-side corner kick inside the penalty area.
The aforesaid was the only conversion of the period, as the hosts retained their marginal advantage heading into the halftime interval.
A defensive error then led to the lawmen increasing their advantage in the 62nd minute, as Neron Barrow found the back of the net. Stealing the ball off the defender, Barrow raced into the penalty area and slotted past the advancing goalkeeper during a one-on-one situation.
The Western Tigers eventually reduced the deficit five minutes later, as Andrew Murray Jr. netted. It was a fortuitous conversion as an initial strike from Randolph Wagner at the top of the 18-yard box was parried by the goalkeeper into the path of the onrushing forward, who slammed home.
Nevertheless, the result was sealed in the 83rd via a Jamaal Harvey strike. Another defensive blunder from the West Ruimveldt-based outfit led to the conversion, as Harvey received a pass inside the area following an interception before slotting the pass to the goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, GDF overpowered Santos 5-1. Delroy Fraser bagged a second-half double in the 90th and 90th+3 minutes, while Stephon McDonald, Sherwin Caesar, and Chris Macey netted in the 45th+1, 73rd, and 90th+4 minutes apiece. For the loser, Ryan Dowding scored in the 75th minute.
The event resumes on Friday at the same venue with another round of matches.
