Mahdia woman charged with attempted murder of husband

Amanda Prince, a 37-year-old unemployed woman of D’Anjou Hill, Mahdia, was arrested on 2023-11-20 and charged yesterday with the attempted murder of her husband.

Prince is accused of attempting to murder her reputed husband Ashton Courtman, a 34-year-old Pump Attendant, on 2023-11-19 at D’Anjou Hill, Mahdia.

The accused appeared at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court yesterday, via Zoom, before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce. She was not required to plead and was remanded to prison. The next court date is 2023-12-12.

According to the police, the victim and the accused had been living together for the past four  years. On 2023-11-19, at about 10 pm  the husband and wife were both consuming alcohol at their home. Based on investigations, the accused’s son asked her to fry plantain but the victim intervened and told her that he did not want plantain and she needed to cook rice instead. The woman reportedly got angry, armed herself with a small bread knife and allegedly dealt the victim one stab to the right side of his chest which caused severe injuries.

On 20-11-2023, at about 10 am, the victim left his home and went to Mahdia District Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor, who admitted him as a patient in a stable condition. The victim was later medevaced to GPHC for further medical attention.
