Herstelling construction worker shot by unknown assailant

A 24-year-old construction worker of Herstelling, Sea Dam, East Bank Demerara, is now in  critical condition after he was shot twice yesterday morning by an unknown man as he was about to enter a taxi to head to work.

The man has been identified as 24-year-old Deo Kissoon of Herstelling, Sea Dam, East Coast Demerara.

Kissoon’s cousin, Christine Singh, told Stabroek News that the shooting occurred at approximately 7.40 am. Kissoon was heading to work and walked to a street that is close to the public road and stood in front of his aunt’s premises to wait for a taxi.

According to Singh, as Kissoon was about to enter the taxi, an unknown man approached him and shot him twice about his body and escaped. He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for an emergency surgery. His condition is listed as critical.

Singh mentioned that her family has been under constant attack. Her female cousin was stabbed several times about her body in November and they suspect that it might be the same perpetrator.

Investigations are ongoing.
