Man drowns at Rock Creek Backdam

The Police are investigating the drowning of a man, known as ‘Tommy Lee’ (correct name, age and address unknown), which occurred at about 8 am yesterday (2023-11-29) at Rock Creek Backdam, Mazaruni River, in Region #7.

Enquiries disclosed that on the date and time mentioned, ‘Tommy Lee’ went to Vanessa’s Mining Camp at Rock Creek Backdam in an intoxicated manner and started to converse with Lennox Adolphus.

According to a release form the police, he then proceeded to an old mining pit located about 20 feet away from Vanessa’s Mining Camp to swim. Shortly after, Adolphus left and went to do some work in Vanessa’s kitchen, leaving him in the Pit swimming by himself.

When Adolphus finished in the kitchen, he went to make checks on ‘Tommy Lee’ but he was not seen in the pit. Adolphus immediately conducted searches in the pit and retrieved the motionless body of the victim beneath the water, the police said. 

Police were contacted and a rank, on arrival at the scene,  checked the body of the victim and no marks of violence were seen. The body was transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital.
