MovieTowne Guyana, located off the Rupert Craig Highway at Turkeyen, East Coast Demerara, yesterday held the grand opening for their Ferris wheel just in time for the Christmas Season and in celebration of their 4th  anniversary.

Patrons came out in their numbers to experience the thrill of a ride.

The ride costs $1,600 per person and has 12 passenger cars.

Among the festivities, MovieTowne also offered such activities as face painting, a bouncy castle, and meet and greet with various cartoon characters for the children.

Stabroek News spoke to a family who were ecstatic about having a first-time experience on the wheel.

Sabita Singh and her two girls were excited to finally be able to catch a ride on the Ferris wheel.

“We drive past here almost every weekend my girls are excited to finally try this thing – I am too.”

It was observed that while some were waiting around in anticipation of the main event to be opened, others were taking advantage of the other activities available.

During his address, Chairman of MovieTowne, Derek Chin, disclosed that the ride cost some $65 million and was made in China. He assured the public that the ride was safe and that the engineers who worked on the project paid keen attention to the details. The Chairman spoke about other surprises in store for Guyanese.

“I have a lot of surprises for the people of Guyana and we have grown to love you so much and you have come in support of us to help us create new and great things so you can have your family come to have clean family fun which is what we are all about from Trinidad and Tobago and even here”, the Guyana-born Chin said.

During his address he noted that MovieTowne will be adding a Starbucks location which is currently under construction and also the world famous steakhouse, “Texas de Brazil” in the coming future.

He ended the opening for the new Ferris wheel with an inaugural ride accompanied by a few lucky children who got the chance to experience it firsthand.
