Kosmos Grill and Lounge yesterday announced that December will be their last month at MovieTowne Guyana as they have been negatively impacted by the mall’s new venture.

MovieTowne however says there was no issue.

According to the statement on their Facebook page, MovieTowne Guyana management has made an investment and was inconsiderate, despite Kosmos being one of their flagship clients. Further, “What was already a difficult relationship was exacerbated with the construction of the mall’s latest venture”, the Kosmos release stated. It was referring to a Ferris wheel.

According to Kosmos the business was directly negatively impacted for months. They stated that all reasonable attempts to come to a resolution with management have been met with indifference and as a result they have been forced to close their doors to the public. They have no immediate plans to open at another location.

They extended gratitude to customers for their continuous support through the global pandemic and heightened political tension, “We think it is important to recognize and celebrate your patronage, without which Kosmos Grill and Lounge would not have been possible.”

In an interview with Stabroek News yesterday MovieTowne’s Public Relations Officer, Kwanda Edmondson said that both businesses shared a great relationship and the management did not wish for it to end.

They have recently added a Ferris Wheel and a Texas de Brazil restaurant and a Starbucks are on the cards.

Edmondson said that businesses that are in close proximity to the Ferris Wheel are expected to benefit from the venture.

“It is very sad, it’s not something that we wanted. We never wanted to terminate Kosmos. Kosmos was a business that MovieTowne Guyana holds very dear and we do wish them all the best in their future endeavours. We are sad that they are leaving.”

She said that all tenants at Movie Towne were notified in advance about the expansions.

“Subsequently to that, we launched the Ferris Wheel on the 2nd of December and notices were given, indicating that we would be utilizing a portion of the parking lot for the launch of the event. The new business venture was not carded to cause any type of discomfort. They were up to date with what was happening”, she said.

When MovieTowne communicated their expansions to Kosmos, they were against the Ferris Wheel idea. While they opposed it many other tenants welcomed the venture as they look forward to an increase in customers.
