Hing vs DeNobrega in MVP Girls Pee Wee Final

The Petra Organisation’s MVP Sports Girls U-11 Schools Football tournament will come to a head today with St John the Baptist (Region 7) clashing with Marian Academy in the grand finale at the Ministry of Education Ground on Carifesta Avenue.

St John, a school located in Bartica is led by the outstanding Shemia Hing, she not only wears the captain’s armband but she also leads in finding goals. Intriguingly, Hing was also a part of the St John’s boys team which progressed as far as the quarter-finals of the Courts Optical Boys Pee Wee tournament. 

Meanwhile, Skylar DeNobrega who has back-to-back hat tricks in the quarter-final and semi-final en route to today’s final is the driving force as goal scorer and leader behind Marian Academy’s success thus far and will be sure to play a key role for her side.

On Friday morning, the two leaders attended a face-off ceremony at the MVP Sports store at the Giftland Mall, Liliendaal along with their respective coaches and teachers.

In a short statement to the press, Marian’s DeNobrega revealed; “I expect a very exciting match … we have been playing some really good football. Many of the fans have been betting against us, which turned out to be our main motivation. So tomorrow my aim is to shut out the naysayers and win the championship for my school.”

Meanwhile, Hing expressed: “I am pleased to have made it into the finals, me and my team have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks and I am confident my team will do well and hopefully we can take back the trophy to Bartica.” 

Today’s action will begin at midday  with an exhibition match between FE Pollard and St Stephen’s Primary while One Mile Primary will face Genesis Academy at 12:50hrs.

At the same time, a match between Smith’s Memorial and Friendship for 7th and 8th place will be played.

At 13:40hrs, Potaro Primary will clash with Tucville Primary for positions fifth and sixth while at 14:30hrs, West Ruimveldt will face North Georgetown Primary in the third place playoff.

At 15:30hrs, the champion deciding game will be contested between St John and Marian.
