DNA test confirms identity of woman found in torched car

The DNA test conducted on the samples submitted from the charred remains discovered in a torched car at Swan Village, Linden-Soesdyke Highway on November 12 has confirmed that the remains are those of Nirvana Algu, Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum informed yesterday.

The post-mortem examination performed on 45-year-old Algu, of Bel Air ruled that her death was due to immolation. The autopsy was performed by government pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, after the body was identified by Algu’s cousin, Sandya Persaud.

According to an earlier Stabroek News report, Algu was last seen in her car alone along the East Bank Demerara at the Soesdyke junction. The car was registered in Algu’s name.
