Joel Embiid powers 76ers to 45-point blowout over Wizards

(Field Level Media) Joel Embiid had 34 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in three quarters and the host Philadelphia 76ers blitzed the Washington Wizards 146-101 yesterday.

It was the eighth straight game with at least 30 points for Embiid.

Tyrese Maxey added 24 points for the Sixers, who have won three in a row. Marcus Morris Sr. and Patrick Beverley each scored 12, and Tobias Harris and Danuel House Jr. had 10 points apiece.

Every Philadelphia player scored.

The Sixers went 20-of-46 on 3-pointers.

Kyle Kuzma led the reeling Wizards with 21 points. Bilal Coulibaly added 13 points while Jared Butler scored 12 and Jordan Poole had 11 points.

Washington, which has only three wins this season, has lost 14 of its last 15 games.

The short-handed Wizards played without Daniel Gafford (hip), Johnny Davis (calf), Ryan Rollins (knee), Landry Shamet (ribs) and Delon Wright (knee).

Robert Covington hit a 3-pointer with 10:27 left in the fourth quarter and the Sixers led 116-69.

Washington never posed a threat the rest of the way.

The Sixers went on a 14-0 run to open the game and the lead ballooned to 60-32 midway through the second quarter.

Embiid hit a fadeaway jumper for a 62-36 advantage with 4:41 left. After an empty Wizards possession, Nicolas Batum caught a nifty pass from Harris at the basket and scored for a 28-point lead once again.

The Sixers led 75-46 at halftime thanks in large part to 22 points from Maxey.

Philadelphia also shot 14-of-29 from 3-point territory in the first half.

Kuzma paced the Wizards with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Embiid hit in a 3-pointer from the wing and the Sixers held an 82-48 advantage with 9:06 remaining in the third.

Kuzma scored the next five points for Washington but it still trailed 84-53.

Embiid threw down a one-handed dunk for a 92-62 lead with 5:23 to go.

Philadelphia went ahead in commanding fashion, 112-67, at the end of the third.
