Corentyne businessman dies while test-driving vehicle

A Corentyne businessman died yesterday morning along the Jackson Creek Public Road, Upper Corentyne after he lost control of the vehicle he was test driving and ended up in a nearby trench.

Dead is Sahid Hamid, 31, a businessman and contractor of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne Berbice. Hamid is the son of the popular Berbice business, Imran Hamid, who operates the “Imran and Son” and “Imran and Daughters” general stores in Rose Hall Town.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the accident happened just around 8.10 am yesterday along the Jackson Creek Public Road. Jackson Creek is located just before Molsen Creek in the Upper Corentyne area.

The pickup in the trench

Stabroek News was told that Hamid, a father of two, was at the time test-driving a pick-up, PKK 915 owned by Wazir Deochand of Crabwood Creek Corentyne, Berbice, which he wanted to buy.

He was proceeding in the pickup along the eastern side of the Jackson Creek road, allegedly at a fast rate, when he lost control of the vehicle which toppled and landed in a trench on the western side of the road.

Hamid, who was pitched out of the vehicle and landed on the edge of the trench was rushed to Skeldon Public Hospital in an unconscious condition where he was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem examination carried out on Hamid’s body yesterday revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries sustained.

The young father who recently ventured into the contracting business, was well known throughout the region. He was described as a kind person who always went out of his way to assist people whenever he could.
