The Georgetown Public Hospital  Corporation (GPHC) on Friday announced that the Guyana Medical Relief (GMR), a US-based non-profit organization has donated 800 boxes of Tiotropium Bromide HandiHaler to it.

A release from the GPHC said that this significant donation aims to revolutionize the way acute asthma attacks are managed at the hospital.

“Traditionally, a nebulizer has been the go-to method for administering bronchodilators like Tiotropium Bromide. However, this latest form of the medication, the HandiHaler, is designed for independent patient usage”, the release said.

The HandiHaler, it said,  offers a more patient-centric approach, allowing individuals to administer the medication themselves.

“This shift not only enhances the efficiency of treatment but also empowers patients to manage their asthma in the long term. The move reflects a progressive step toward personalized and independent healthcare”, the release said.

Thanking GMR for the donation, the GPHC said that it not only addresses the immediate needs of asthma patients at the hospital but also sets the foundation for a future where individuals can actively participate in managing their health.
