Man wanted over killing of wife at Sunset Hotel ingested poison

The post-mortem results for Sadesh Appadu, 33, of Kilcoy, Chesney, Coren-tyne, Berbice, who was pronounced dead on December 15 at the Port Mourant Hospital after being on the run from the police following the murder of his wife, showed that he had ingested a poison, the police revealed yesterday

The examination was conducted by government pathologist Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan on Monday at the Port Mourant Hospital mortuary and gave the cause of death as bilateral pulmonary fibrosis and suspected ingestion of an organophosphate. The body was then handed over to the family for burial/cremation.

Appadu had been wanted for the murder of his wife, Romona Lall, which took place between November 11 and 12.

According to the police, on December 15, at about 12.44 pm, Appadu turned up at a relative in Chesney, Corentyne, and asked for a cup of water. At the time, the police say he appeared to be weak and saliva was running from his mouth. He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators had reported that aided by CCTV cameras at the Sunset Hotel in Kitty, George-town, they established that the prime suspect in the murder of Lall was her husband Appadu. Lall was murdered between 17.50 hours on Saturday, November 11 and 12.15 hours on Sunday November 12.
