Guyanese basketball players experience mixed fortunes on collegiate circuit

Guyanese basketball players Israel Yaw and Akeem Crandon suffered mixed fortunes on the collegiate scene with the University of Maryland and Barry University, respectively.

In 13 minutes of play, the former Plaisance Guardians standout could only muster figures of two points and as many rebounds as his side lost 52-76 to Marist College on Monday.

It was his fifth consecutive defeat, as his team’s record plummets to 2-7. His team’s only wins to date occurred against the University of Pennsylvania and Cairn University, while he has also suffered defeats at the hands of Longwood University, Temple University, Notre Dame, Liberty, NC State, and East Carolina.

Yaw had previously attended ASA College and appeared in 22 matches. He averaged 12.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during his junior-collegiate career.

On the other hand, Akeem Crandon’s side, Barry University, recorded their fourth consecutive win to improve their season’s record to 7-3. Barry crushed Findlay University 84–69 on Sunday, December 17th. The day prior, Barry University defeated Clayton State 107-96 at the Jenkins Field House in Florida.
