Essequibo businessman arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition

Pooran Manman, called Rocky, a 44-year-old businessman of Abram Zuil, Essequibo Coast was on Tuesday night arrested after he was found having in his possession an unlicensed firearm, along with several rounds of ammunitions.

According to a police report, around 20:30 hours, ranks received information that threats and Domestic Violence [DV] were issued at the businessman’s home at Abram Zuil. When investigating ranks visited the businessman’s home, Manman was told of the DV report made by his reputed 37-year-old wife who resides at the same address.

The firearm

While at Manman’s residence, ranks in his presence, conducted a search in the bedroom, where they found a 9mm pistol, one .32 pistol, two hundred and sixty -nine .32 rounds of ammunition, twenty-one 12-gauge cartridges, nine 16-gauge cartridges, twenty-four .32 spent shells and two .32 magazine. The businessman admitted to the police that he was the holder of a firearm license for the .32 pistol but did not have a license for the 9MM pistol which he claimed to have purchased from a man at Dartmouth who is now deceased.

Manman was told of the offence and cautioned in respect of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition which the police took possession of. He was arrested and escorted to the Anna Regina Police Station.
