Three Yarrowkabra men remanded on gun, ammo charges

Three men from Yarrow-kabra on the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway were on Tuesday remanded after they were read charges relating to a gun and ammunition – in the case of two – and ammunition for the third.

The police said in a statement that  Amos Emmanuel, age 22, and Bryan Khan, age 28, were arrested last week and charged on Tuesday with  the offence of break and enter and larceny committed on the dwelling Mohamed Hack on Wednesday 22 November 2023 at Yarrowkabra.

The accused appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman, who read the charge to them. The two accused pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied and they were both remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to 19th January 2024.

The two accused were also charged on Tuesday with the unlawful possession of a firearm without licence (one. 38 revolver) on 28th December 2023 at Yarrowkabra. They both pleaded not guilty and bail was denied. They were both remanded to prison on this charge. This matter was adjourned to 19th January 2024.

Emmanuel and Khan were also charged on Tuesday with the unlawful possession of ammunition without licence (a quantity of .38 ammunition). They both pleaded not guilty, and bail was denied.

Meanwhile, Alwyn James, 27, was arrested last week and charged on Tuesday with the offence of unlawful possession of ammunition without licence  pertaining to 31 live 12-gauge cartridges.

The accused appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Latchman who read the charge to him and he pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied and he was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to 19th January 2024.
