DC Ballers and Speightland were crowned the ‘One Guyana’ King and Queen Beach Football Champions, respectively, following the competition’s conclusion yesterday at the PPP office compound in Mackenzie, Linden. In the men’s final, the DC Ballers bested the LA Ballers 2-1. A fortuitous own goal handed the DC Ballers the early breakthrough in the fourth minute. This was then doubled in the 11th minute, as Zidane Ramdeholl scored. The LA Ballers recorded what eventually proved to be a consolation goal in the 16th minute via Andre Mayers. As a result, the DC Ballers received $1,000,000 and the championship trophy, while the LA Ballers pocketed $400,000 and the corresponding accolade. Platinum Side and YMCA, the respective third and fourth place finishers, collected $200,000 and $100,000 apiece.

Meanwhile, in the women’s final, Speightland overcame a 0-2 first-half deficit to prevail 3-2. Three conversions in the space of 16 minutes settled the outcome in favour of Speightland, who had trailed after conceding two goals in the opening 10 minutes.

Sandra Johnson and Glendy Lewis handed Dynamo the perfect start, as they etched their names on the scorer’s sheet in the fifth and 10th minutes, respectively. However, Nikita Wayne initiated the come-from-behind result, reducing the deficit via a 23rd-minute conversion.

Parity was then restored to proceedings in the 35th minute, as Shenessa Cornelius, the division’s eventual MVP awardee, found the back of the net. The comeback was then sealed four minutes later, as Cornelius made her presence felt to complete her brace with a conversion.

Due to the result, Speightland walked away with $400,000 and the championship trophy, while Dynamo pocketed $100,000 and a trophy. The third- and fourth-place finishers, Hururu and Aroaima, received $75,000 and $25,000, respectively.
