Ministry probing workplace accident at Imam Bacchus Complex

The Ministry of Labour  say it is currently investigating a workplace accident that occurred at Imam Bacchus and Sons Complex, Affiance, Essequibo Coast.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry said  that Domindra Narayan, an employee of Imam Bacchus and Sons Complex, was pressure washing the facility using a 10-foot metal scaffold on Tuesday around 12:45 pm, when he slipped and fell to the concrete ground.

Narayan was subsequently transported to the Suddie Public Hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment for his head injury.

Naipaul Persaud, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Officer with responsibility for Region Two, is investigating the circumstances of the accident. He was accompanied in these investigations by Ravi Persaud , Labour Officer of Region Two.

The Minister of Labour,  Joseph Hamilton expressed his concern about workers being injured on the job said that his Ministry, through its OSH Department is aggressively tackling unsafe workplace conditions and unsafe work practices through inspections and audits.

Hamilton wished Narayan a speedy recovery and said that a thorough investigation will be conducted.
