The Ministry of Labour’s Co-operatives and Friendly Societies Department (Co-Op) recently oversaw the Annual General Meeting and election of the executive committee of the Yarrowkabra Coal Burners Association.

The group, which has existed since 2001, burns and sells coal to sustain a livelihood for its members.

A release from the ministry said that the elections went smoothly under the supervision of Region Four Co-operatives Officer, Mohamed Hussein, and Assistant Commissioner of the Guyana Forestry Com-mission (GFC), Simone Benn.

As a result, the following persons were elected to the financial committee:

Keisha Higgins as President

Travis Simon as Vice President

Quibileh Pollard as Secretary

Althea Peters as Treasurer

Dianne Marques as Assistant Secretary

Winston Glenn and Malissa Joe as Trustees

Shounde King and Anthony Pollard as Committee Members

Officers of the Co-Op department are usually in attendance at annual general meetings of Friendly Societies to ensure compliance and regulatory adherence as mandated by the Friendly Societies Act, Chapter 36:04, the release said.
