Cold Fusion among winners

On Sunday, the West Coast Demerara Cricket Association’s (WDCA) Jits and Neelam- sponsored 40-overs continued with three matches as Cold Fusion, Canal Sports Club and McGill Superstars all chalked up wins.

At Zeelugt’s community ground, Cold Fusion faced Rising Stars and beat them by 69 runs.

Cold Fusion batted first and was led by a few cameos ending on 233 all out in 27 overs.

Kapildeo Charrandan and Sanjeev Ramdeen were joint top scorers with 32 each; Charrandan’s knock included two sixes while Ramdeen had four fours and a six in his effort. Mark Mohabir (31) and Diquan Campbell (28) also chipped in with cameos. Bowling for the Rising Stars, Brandon Lee snared 3/20 while Romel Zamal took 2/28 and Marvin Cheong returned 2/46.

Needing 234 for victory, the Rising Stars were grounded at 164 all out despite Travis Cato’s 42 which included eight fours. Other batsmen to make contributions were Shaquille Brisport with 23 and Daniel Scott who made 20. While all the Cold Fusion bowlers chipped in with wickets, the notable performances came from Jason Hussain who took 2/14 and Charrandan who returned with the ball to end with figures of 2/34.

Over at the Canal Sports Club ground, the hosts flattened the Windsor Forest Vipers winning by a whopping 143-run margin. The hosts batted first and amassed 228 before they were bowled out in 35.2 overs. Duance Graham stroked 68 and received vital support from Anthony Ifill who made 49. The pick of the bowlers for the Vipers was Deendayal Guyadeen with 3/40. The Canal Sports Club bowlers then made light work of the Vipers batting line-up running through them to bowl them out for just 85 in 22 overs. Robin Singh (2/19) and Vishwanauth Jadunauth (2/15) led the bowling effort for the winners.

Representing McGill Superstars, former national player Ricardo Adams showed his class with his left arm orthodox spin ripping through the All Youths to take 6/10 as they were bowled out for just 66. In response McGill chased down the target with just two wickets falling to win by 8 wickets as Troy Persaud ended in 34 not out.

 The competition continues next weekend with the fixtures to be announced later on this week.
