Looknauth, Persaud spur CICC to massive wins

Half-centuries from Richie Looknauth and Akshaya Persaud ensured Cornelia Ida Cricket Club (CICC) a 160-run win over McGill Super Stars Sports Club yesterday at Meten-Meer-Zorg in the Royalty Vibes T20 knockout tournament.

CICC won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 216 for seven from their allotted 20 overs before routing McGill Super Stars for 56 in 15.3 overs.

Looknauth top scored with 66 from 39 balls,  hitting six sixes and three fours. He was supported by Persaud who carved six sixes and four fours before being bowled by Travis Persaud.

Cameos also came from Joshua Ferrell with an unbeaten 27 from 15 balls as well as Vaikesh Dhaniram with 17.

Abdool Razack was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-18 with support coming from Diquan Murray, Persaud and Navendra Persaud with one wicket each.

In the chase, Looknauth returned to stifle the McGill batsmen by taking 4-7 from  21 balls. Muhammed Wazidalli supported with 2-18. Persaud top scored with 18 from 24 balls, his innings featuring three boundaries but no other batsman reached double figures.

Meanwhile in the second match, CICC defeated Cold Fusion by five wickets. Cold Fusion opted to take first strike when they won the toss but only could muster 57 all out in 16.3 overs. CICC then responded with 58 for five in just 12 overs.

Looknauth was once again the principal bowler, bagging 4-10 from four overs with his off-spin. Aryan Persaud and Ushardeva Balgobin claimed two wickets each to support Looknauth. Mark Mohabir top scored with 22 but Cold Fushion began to descend after losing five wickets without scoring a run as they reached 10-6 by the fifth over.

Keyon Alexander looked keen on keeping his team in contention and defending the low score by taking 3-15 from three overs. Dhaniram top scored with 17 not out and Khellwan Tulcan chipped in with 11.
