Minister holds meeting on fatalities in construction industry

Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour, and Permanent Secretary  Mae Toussaint Jr Thomas-Meerabux yesterday met with numerous stakeholders to discuss ways to reduce the number of workplace accidents and fatalities in Guyana’s construction industry.

Also in attendance were  Gweneth King, Consultant of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department, along with Roydon Croal and Maxean Bess, Senior OSH officers of the OSH department, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Public Works, the Central Housing and Planning Authority, and the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board.

The discussion was intended to establish a technical collaboration committee to address workplace safety and health in the construction sector, the release said.

The committee is set to meet shortly to finalize this plan.
