Haimchand Takram, a 60-year-old businessman of La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast was on Wednesday committed to stand trial in the High Court over rape.
A release from the police said that he is accused of committing the act on a child from the Essequibo Coast between 1st September 2022 and 30th of September 2022.
The case was heard on Wednesday at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Esther Sam where a paper committal hearing was held.
The release said that Magistrate Sam ruled that based on the Statements and Exhibits tendered before the court, there is enough evidence for the accused to stand trial at the next practicable session at the Supreme Court at Suddie.
Bail was granted in the sum of $500,000.
