13 teams will contest Bounty/Antonio’s Grille one-day hockey tournament today

The 2024 hockey season will ‘bully’ off today at the Providence National Stadium, East Bank Demerara, with 13 teams slated to clash in the Bounty/Antonio’s Grille one-day 7-a-side tournament from 9:00 a.m.

Nine of those teams are male, while four female sides round out the 13. According to tournament rules, while it is a 7-a-side format, each team is allowed a maximum of 11 players and a minimum of four. Games will be played in 20 minutes overall, with no halftime break.

The men’s division, which has been split into two groups, will see them play two rounds of round-robin matches, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

The women will play one round of group games, followed by the semi-finals. The winners of the respective semi-finals will then clash in the finals scheduled for 2:50 PM (women’s) and 3:15 PM (men’s), followed by the presentation ceremony.

Group ‘A’ of the Men’s Division will see YMCA Old Fort Top Form, GCC The Sequel, Saints Hockey Club S Team, Pepsi Hikers, and GPF Hockey Club do battle, while Group ‘B’ consists of YMCA Old Fort All Stars, Bounty GCC, GCC Pitbulls, and Saints Hockey Club Scorpions in action.

The female teams are GBTI GCC, Saints, YMCA Old Fort, and Woodpecker Hikers.
