QC’s Pitamber and Joshi crowned champions of National U-14 Chess tourney

The Queen’s College auditorium on Saturday played host to riveting U-14 chess action as the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) rolled out their National U-14 Chess tournament which was sponsored by Midway Specialty Care Centre.

Playing on home turf, QC students Sachin Pitamber and Aditi Joshi ruled their respective categories to walk away as champions of the Open and Girls Division.

In the open division, Pitamber scored 6.5 points out of a possible 7 while Joshi won all of her games earning a maximum of 7 points to  take first place. 

Coming second and third respectively in the Open category were the Zhang brothers,  Nicholas and Alexander who are also QC students.  

Remarkably,  Girls U-12 champion Kataleya Sam, showed her quality as she held her own, earning second place while U-10 player Saura Ruplall placed third.

Meanwhile, the GCF handed over awards to the Best Open U-12 Player Aquilani  Swaminadha and Best Girls U-12 Player Sam with the Best Open U10 Player going to Vir Narine and Best  Girls U-10 Player to Ruplall
