Two suggestions to improve Corriverton Park

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to First Lady Arya Ali on her initiative for creating the park at Corriverton!

I was there on 21 January; it was a delight to see the community basking in the breeze off the Atlantic Ocean/ Corentyne River.

I humbly offer two suggestions: First, the park is situated in the vicinity of a mosque, a church and a school. I recommend that the authorities designate the area as a family friendly zone. That is, alcohol and loud music be prohibited in the vicinity. For the vendors who may be affected by this proposal, I recommend that they change their product mix.

They can sell ice cream, popsicles, black pudding, bara, channa, sweet drinks, jalebi, kids toys, etc. Second, the public road opposite the park is occupied by makeshift vending outlets. The beauty of the park is marred by the shanty-town feeling one gets from this hodge-podge of dilapidated structures. I humbly recommend that the relevant authorities take a page out of the Granger administration’s book and clean up the area as was done at Supenaam.

Neatly designed stalls with a uniform look but in different and vibrant colours can replace the current “eye sore.” Guyana needs more parks and facilities for the community. My congratulations to First Lady Arya Ali.

Sincerely,

Roger Ally
