Windies star Joseph receives a hero’s welcome upon arrival in Guyana

International cricket’s breakout star, West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph, was given a hero’s welcome following his return to local shores yesterday from the Test tour of Australia at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri.

Joseph rose to international stardom following his 7/68 second-inning haul, which propelled the West Indies to victory in the second test, in the process securing the Caribbean outfit’s first triumph in 27 years ‘down under’.

The welcoming party, which primarily featured family, friends, and local teammates of the West Indian pacer, also included Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports Charles Ramson Jr., Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President Bissoondyal Singh, Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle, and Guyana Harpy Eagles Assistant Coach Garvin Nedd.

Minister Ramson Jr. stated during the feature address that Joseph serves as an inspiration to the world, noting, “On behalf of Guyanese, I want to say how proud we are of you. The pride we express as a nation is a pride we want to be for evermore.”

He further stated that Joseph should avoid the inevitable distractions that will arise and continue to focus on his career objectives, adding that the fans, supporters, the GCB, and the Government of Guyana will continue to support the player in his future endeavours.

Meanwhile, GCB President Bissoondyal Singh congratulated Joseph on his success, as he elevated himself as the latest international star of the sport due to his phenomenal exploits.
