The country’s top junior athletes will gather today at the National Track & Field Centre at Edinburgh, West Coast Demerara, all vying to qualify for the upcoming CARIFTA Games in Grenada from March 30-April 1.

It is the first of two CARIFTA Trials to be run off by the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) as they seek to send their largest ever contingent of athletes to the 51st edition of the games. Today will see U-17 and U-20 girls and boys competing in 26 events from 10:30 am beginning with the Open 100m dashes and culminating with the distance events at 4:15 pm.

This year’s CARIFTA Games will be held at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada. While some athletes have already made qualifying times and distances, the AAG is aiming to send at least 25 athletes with a potential maximum of 32.
