A 22 year-old man who was charged with larceny of a person was refused bail when he appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court last  Monday. It is alleged that on January 26 2024, while on Brickdam, Nathaniel Martin of Lot 169 Middle road Sideline Dam, in the company of others, robbed Richard Chan of one Samsung cellphone valued $35,000 and $5000, a total of $40,000.

Martin pled not guilty to the charge and explained to the court that on the day in question he saw when the robbery occurred, and when the police came, he was identified by Chan as the perpetrator but he was really on the sidelines. He continued that the person who committed the robbery was wearing a white shirt and the shirt he was wearing at the time is what he was currently wearing in court.

The prosecution objected to bail due to the nature and gravity of the offence. The prosecution further informed the court that the police recovered the cellphone and that Martin took ranks to the persons who were selling the phone. Magistrate Nurse refused bail and Martin was remanded to prison until February 27, 2024.
