Bartica taxi driver says robbed of $6m worth of jewellery

Police are investigating a report of armed robbery committed on Thakoor Harryram called ‘Ricky’, a 43-year-old taxi driver of Lot 190, West Indian Housing Scheme, Bartica, which occurred between 20:20 and 20:30 pm on Sunday at his residence. According to a police press release, the male suspect was masked and armed with a suspected firearm.

Police investigations disclosed that at about 8.20 pm on Sunday, Harryram arrived at his residence with a female friend and his son. He parked his car and proceeded to the back of his home. As he was ascending his stairs, the suspect approached and held him at gunpoint. He ordered Harryram to hand over his jewellery.

The complainant complied and handed over three gold chains with six gold nuggets, one gold band, one gold ring, one diamond ring and one Samsung cellular phone, all with a combined value estimated at $6 million. The attacker then jumped over the fence and fled on foot.
