Albion man found guilty of felonious wounding

An Albion Front, Corentyne man will return to the High Court in March for sentencing after he was found guilty of felonious wounding following a chopping incident in August 2021.

Joshua Preme, a carpenter, from Albion Front, Corentyne, was on trial before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the High Court in Berbice where he was found guilty yesterday by a margin of 11-1 for felonious wounding.  The facts of the matter are that the accused and the victim, Jagdeo Ganesh, are from the same village Albion Front, Corentyne. They lived one street away from each other.

On the 9th Aug 2021, Ganesh was reportedly cutting branches to make brooms and while riding his bicycle the accused ran out of his yard and pushed him off and began firing chops.

It was reported that another person intervened and participated in the chopping, however, the accused when arrested by the police had confessed to the crime stating that it was he alone who did the chopping.

The state’s case was presented by Attorney at Law, Muntaz Ali, while Preme was represented by Attorney at Law, Sasha Roberts.  Preme will return to court on March 12, for sentencing.
