Forgery accused freed after witnesses fail to show

Ryan Ferreira known as ‘Herbert’ who was charged with forging documents with intent to defraud the public in 2021, was freed on Wednesday at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court after the court found no evidence to convict.

Ferreira appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sunil Scarce and was freed after the prosecutor was challenged pertinent to witnesses not showing up to provide evidence.

It was alleged that on Sunday 1st March, 2020 and Thursday 23rd April, 2020, at the Guyana Oil Company, Providence Terminal East Bank Demerara, Ferreira, with intent to defraud, forged a Republic Bank cheque #00001272, drawn in favour of the Guyana Oil Company for $49,997,408, purporting to show that it was issued by I G Enterprises Incorporation.

 A wanted bulletin was issued by the Guyana Police Force in February, 2021 for Ferreira, for questioning in relation to the forging of documents with intent to defraud the public and demanding property upon a forged instrument, committed in April 2020. 

On June 9, 2021 Ferreira appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sunil Scarce where the charge was read to him and he was later released on bail.
