Back Circle edge North East to capture crown

Witnessed by a mammoth crowd, Back Circle won the inaugural edition of the ‘Georgetown versus the Rest’ Street-ball championship, defeating perennial contender North East La Penitence 3-2 on sudden death penalty kicks.

Staged at the Back Circle tarmac, penalty kicks were required to decide the outcome after regulation time ended scoreless.

Tasked with commencing the process, Akil Plass of North East La Penitence converted. However, Stephon Daniels was equal to the task for the hosts, as he also netted from the distance to level proceedings at 1-1.

North East then converted to start the second round to take a 2-1 lead. The aforesaid score remained unchanged as Cecil Jackman of Back Circle failed to score after hitting the woodwork.

Needing only a conversion to seal the win, the visitors would hand the hosts a lifeline as Lennox Cort missed from the distance. Back Circle immediately capitalised in the form of Simeon Moore, who converted to send the match into the sudden death realm.

It then went from bad to worse for North East La Penitence as Samuel Hunte missed from the distance, handing Back Circle the opportunity to complete the come-from-behind win. The home side would oblige, as Ravin Naughton converted to spark celebrations on the field.

In the third-place playoff, Gold is Money defeated emerging giant Lodge All-Stars 3-2 on penalty kicks following a 2-2 score at the end of full-time.

Prior to the aforesaid ending, Randolph Wagner and Michael Oie netted in the seventh and 22nd minutes, respectively, for Gold is Money, while Lodge scored in the form of Michael Jameel and Carl Higgins in the 19th and 28th minutes apiece.
