GFF National Training Centre gets facelift ahead of Elite League kick-off

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National  Training Centre (NTC) pitch has had a facelift as upgrades and installments have been completed ahead of Season Six of the Elite League which kicks off on February 25 at  the Providence, East Bank Demerara facility. 

The synthetic turf was worked on by Netherlands-based specialist company  Greenfields and the upgrades were funded by FIFA to “guarantee ideal playing conditions for the ten  Elite League clubs” according to a release from the GFF. 

Additionally, the entrance to the pitch was completely refurbished while FIFA-approved floodlights were also installed. The pitch’s seams and lines were also retouched while new ball catcher nets were installed. 

In the release, GFF President Wayne Forde expressed his delight at the impending return of the Elite League. “Over the past few months, considerable efforts and funds have been invested in  enhancing the facility to elevate both player and fan experiences. We are fully prepared  for what promises to be a successful Season Six.” 

According to the GFF, the enhancements “were finalised on January 24, accompanied by training for the local  maintenance team on proper procedures, along with the provision of a Maintenance  Manual”. 

Season six of the Elite League Season Six will see the Guyana Defence Force looking to defend their title while  Western Tigers, Guyana Police Force, Fruta Conquerors, Den Amstel, Buxton United, Ann’s Grove, Santos, Monedderlust and Slingerz will all be chasing glory.   

A total of ninety games will be played between the NTC at Providence  and the No. 5 Ground in Berbice. Match days, predominantly featuring double-headers, will be  on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. 

The winners will be awarded $2,000,000 in cash, with second, third and fourth place finishers receiving prizes of $1,200,000, $800,000 and $500,000, respectively.
