Guyanese basketball player wins on collegiate basketball circuit

Israel Yaw and the University of Maryland at Eastern Shore recorded their victory in four matches on the collegiate basketball circuit, following a win over Coppin State on Monday evening.

Staged at the Hytche Centre, Princess Anne in Maryland, Yaw and the University of Maryland defeated Coppin State 75-67. Yaw tallied an impressive eight points and one block in seven minutes of play. 

On Saturday, February 17th, at the Hill Field House in Baltimore, the University of Maryland lost 65-70 to Morgan State. The loss ended a two-game win streak.

However, the University of Maryland mauled Bryn Athyn 88-55 at the Hytche Centre on February 10th. Yaw recorded six points, four rebounds, and a block.

On February 5th, the University of Maryland defeated Norfolk State University 69-60 at the same venue. Yaw recorded one steal and one rebound in the win.

With the recent results, his team’s record climbs to 8-15. The former Plaisance Guardians standout is slated to return to the court on Saturday against North Carolina Central University.

Yaw had previously attended ASA College and appeared in 22 matches. He averaged 12.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during his junior-collegiate career.
