There are many more Mohan Nandus who have been forgotten by today’s PPP leadership

Dear Editor,

I would like you to publish my letter in your newspaper which I found very interesting to read. I read in your newspaper a few days ago from Vishnu Bisram about the treatment meted out to the great Mohan Nandu during the time of his illness to his death. I would like the Guyanese people who are die hearted supporters of the PPP to know that it is not only Mr. Mohan Nandu alone who have passed through this in their final journey; there are many more and today I will highlight one individual.

Before I do so, I want to let the PPP know that these were the individuals who made a lifetime of sacrifices putting the party first before their family. They are responsible for where the PPP is today; the PPP leaders of today forgot the foot soldiers and local village leaders who were the eyes and ears of the party during the Burnham/Hoyte regimes.

There is an individual named Rai Dhanraj who is sick, I think he is in the 80s and needs help. He is forgotten. This individual was picked up by the Burnham police in the 1970s, in the middle of the night, and went missing from his family only to be found three weeks later tortured and bruised. A man who did not gave up but still continued in the struggle for a better Guyana up to his sickness.

It gives me the impression that today’s PPP leadership does not care for our former members. They show no respect or love for them, they need financial and medical help but cannot have any because they do not know who to turn to. The party’s leadership is not showing any interest in them because they are no longer young; they are old and cannot perform.

I understand there is a PPP party office in the village with a supervisor – ask him if he is aware of this individual.  2025 will give an answer. I do hope corruption, favouritism, family and friends running the show and contract sharing will be a thing of the past.

I would like to conclude that these individuals were used to benefit others and then abandoned. Our present leadership do not realise that these were the comrades who sacrificed their lives and made contributions for a better Guyana. The PPP must cure the disease of individualism within its ranks, strive for integrity, thrift, uprightness, total dedication to the public interest and complete selflessness.

Sincerely,
