West Dem selects squad for DCB U19 Cricket Championship

With the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) set to bowl off their Inter Association U-19 tournament shortly, the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) has selected their final roster following the conclusion of two trial matches.

This was confirmed by a release from the association. According to the correspondence, Sachin Balgobin will lead the team, which comprises Kelvin Raymond (Vice- Captain), Pameshwar Ram, Robin Seecharran, Rezikill Ranee, Aron Mohabir, Udesh Seetaram, Nityanand Mathura, Joshua Kishundial, Amrit Persaud, Ruben Puran, Tashawn Argyle, Mahendra Mohan, Floyd Famey, and Ganesh Jairam.

The reserved players are Patrice Fraser, Kevin Benn, Sahid Shakoor, Vickram Muniram, Shahid Haniff, and Pramraj Persaud. The combination of Jermaine Maxwell and Avinash Ganesh will serve as the head coach and manager, respectively.

In the first 50-over contest staged at the West Meten-Meer-Zorg ground on Saturday, February 24th, Mathura XI recorded 235 in 48 overs. Jairam and Ram recorded 55 and 53 runs apiece, while Mohabir added 36 runs. Seetaram was the pick of the bowlers with 4-27.

In reply, Balgobin XI won by one wicket after finishing at 236/9 in 41 overs. Seecharran scored the most with 55 runs, while Famey, Balgobin, and Lall Beharry scored 41, 22, and 21 runs, respectively. Pramraj Persaud was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 3–25. In the second trial encounter, which occurred at the same venue on Wednesday, Raymond XI defeated Seetaram XI by 31 runs. Batting first, Raymond XI were bowled out for 182. Famey top scored with 48, while Raymond and Aron Persaud added 24 and 21 runs apiece.

Pramraj Persaud was the pick of the bowlers with 2-7. In reply, Seetaram XI was skittled for 151. Mohabir top scored with 36 runs, while Mathura, Seetaram, and Balgobin scored 23, 15, and 11 runs apiece.

The DCB’s tourney will involve the five associations: Upper Demerara, East Bank, East Coast, West Demerara, and Georgetown, and will be played in a round-robin format with the top two teams qualifying for the final.
