Georgetown thrash West Demerara in DCB U-19 Cricket

Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) defeated their West Demerara counterpart by a mammoth 123 runs when the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter Association U-19 tournament commenced yesterday at the Meten-Meer-Zorg ground.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, GCA posted 256/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Romeo Deonarine top-scored with 70 [6x4s, 2x6s]. He was supported by Kishan Silas, who tallied 44 runs, while Jonathan Van Lange scored an aggressive 38 [4x4s, 2x6s] from 25 deliveries. Adding a belligerent 34 [3x64s, 3x6s] from a mere 16 balls was John Persaud.

In response, West Demerara were bowled out for 133 in 37.5 overs. Pameshwar Ram top scored with 31 runs, which were highlighted by six boundaries. The next best scorer was Kelvin Raymond with 20 runs, while extras contributed 19 runs. Adding 15 runs was Captain Sachin Balgobin.

The DCB’s tourney will involve the five associations: Upper Demerara, East Bank, East Coast, West Demerara, and Georgetown, and will be played in a round-robin format with the top two teams qualifying for the final.
