Names of the dead must be removed from the OLE

Dear Editor,

The contention that persons who die overseas but their names are still on the voters’ list, because there is no mechanism in place for removal, is valid (Guyana Std News March 7).  When a person dies, whether local or overseas, their names must be removed from the OLE. It is difficult to understand why a system has not been implemented for this purpose. This concern must be addressed by the elections body.  The further contention that our electoral machinery is complicit in facilitating electoral malpractices need no explanation or comment.

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
