On January 25, 2024, a contract valued at $28,638,435 was signed between the Government of Guyana through the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) and R. Kissoon Contracting Service to construct a bridge at the University of Guyana’s Early Childhood Centre of Excellence (UG ECCE).

A release yesterday from the BNTF said that this project is being funded by the Government of Guyana and will provide easier access to the facility.  It is unclear why the release was only issued yesterday.

Under the BNTF Ninth Cycle, the UG ECCE was constructed. This institution is a childcare, teaching, and research facility offering developmentally appropriate learning environments for children of students and staff of the University of Guyana and from nearby communities, the release said. The release added that the main focus  of UG’s ECCE is to provide exemplary pedagogical practice and opportunities for research about the impact of early care, education, and development, including special education needs and/or disabilities.

Present at the signing were Karen Roopchand, Project Manager, BNTF; Shabana Omar, Project Engineer, BNTF; BNTF; Jedidah Crosse Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, BNTF; as well as the representative of the Construction company, R. Kissoon Contracting Services Inc., Rudranauth Roopdeo, Managing Director.
