Students from Queen’s College (QC) have come out on top in the inaugural University of Guyana Law Society (UGLS) Inter-School Mooting Competi-tion, which was held in collaboration with Moot Court Guyana (MCG) last Thursday.

According to a press release, the competition saw participation from Queen’s College, MacKenzie High School, New Amsterdam Multilateral High, President’s College, and St Rose’s High. Unfortunate-ly, the Bishops’ High School had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts with mock examinations, leaving the field open for the remaining schools to compete.

Each school entered a team of three students, with roles designated as Senior Counsel, Junior Counsel, and Researcher, the release stated. With participants, Chanelsia Cameron, Tevin Nedd, and Nathalia Henry, QC secured the top spot in the competition. President’s College and St. Rose’s High gained second and third places, respectively, the release said.

However, despite QC taking home the overall victory, the Best Advocate Prize was shared between President’s College and St Rose’s High School, with the Best Researcher Prize going to the New Amsterdam Multilateral High, the release informed.

It added that the panel of judges, which included Chief Justice (retd) Kenneth Benjamin and attorney-at-law Excellence Dazzel, noted the high level of talent and dedication displayed by all participants.

The success of this inaugural event has paved the way for more schools to be invited to future competitions, and plans are already in motion for the next installment in 2025, the release said.
