Moore, Goliath, Chetram & Barton victorious at GTTA Tournament

On Sunday, Malachi Moore (Handicap Open), Xenophon Goliah (Master 50+), Aneesa Chetram (Novice Girls) and Delon Barton (Novice Boys) all emerged victorious in their respective categories at the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Novice Open, Master 50+ and Handicap Open Table Tennis Tournament played at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

In the Handicap Open, a thriller of a final was contested between Moore (-4 handicap) and Kristian Sahadeo (-5 handicap). However, Moore would prevail in the 5-game thriller with games of 11-9, 5-11,14-12, 8-11 and 13-11 (3-2) to come out on top. Earlier in the semifinals, Moore (-4) came from behind to beat Colin Wong (-5) at 8-11, 5-11, 11-9,12-10 and 11-6 while Sahadeo (-5) defeated Jasmine Billingy (-3) 11-2,11-8,11-7 (3-1).

In the quarterfinals of that category, Sahadeo (-5) defeated Thuraia Thomas (-3) 3-1, Billingy (-3) defeated Owan Wills (0) 3-2, Moore (-4) defeated GDF rank Devon Richmond (-5) 3-2 and Wong (-5) defeated young and promising 13 years old Kayden Meusa (0) 3-0.

In the Masters 50+ category, the round robin finals saw Xenophon Goliah winning four matches to be declared the winner. He defeated Remy Taitt 3-0, Marlon Washington 3-0, Bruce Murray 3-2 and Roger MeLenon 3-0. Second place went to Remy Taitt who defeated Washington 3-0, Murray 3-0, and McLenon 3-2 while third place went to Murray, fourth place Washington and at the bottom of the table was McLenon.

Meanwhile Aneesa Chetram of Annandale Secondary took home the Novice Girls (Nursery Academy) title. She defeated Chrisleyann Richards (President College) 3-1 while joint third places went to Ashanti Paul (Plaisance Secondary) and Chelsea Benjamin (Yarrawarrah Secondary). In the semifinals, Chetram defeated Benjamin 3-0 while Richards defeated Paul 3-0.

Over in the Novice Boys (Nursery Academy) finals Delon Beaton defeated Hervin D’Aguilar in games of 11-9, 11-9, 4-11 and 11-7 (3-1) to clinch the trophy. Meanwhile, joint third place went to Alexander Zhang and Ravindra Rikee. Earlier in the semifinals Beaton defeated Rikee at 11-4, 12-14,11-8 and 11-9 (3-1) while D’Aguilar defeated Zhang at 11-7,11-5 and 11-7 (3-0).
