The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that a 41-year-old driver be charged with causing death by dangerous driving. The 41-year-old was the driver of a minibus that struck and killed Anita Narine last December.

Region Three Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Siwnarine, told Stabroek News on Friday that the file has returned from the DPP, and based on advice, the man will be charged with causing death by dangerous driving this week.

Narine, 47, was struck by a minibus on Tuesday, December 19, in Le Destin, a village located on the East Bank of Essequibo.

Investigations revealed that the minibus, BAD 6362, was proceeding west along the road at a fast rate when the left front of the vehicle collided with Narine who was crossing the road.

As a result of the collision, Narine fell on the roadway. She was picked up in a conscious state by the driver, and rushed to the Sheriff Hospital at Leonora where she died while receiving treatment.
