Ahead of what promises to be one of the most exciting fight cards in the squared circle on Guyana’s shores in recent times, Elton Dharry versus Dexter Marques for the WBA Super Flyweight Gold Title will be held on April 20th.

This was confirmed yesterday at a press conference conducted at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC), Carifesta Avenue, which will be the venue for the encounter. At the press engagement, it was explained that the card, dubbed Fight Night Guyana, is a product of Elton Dharry Promotions and will be sanctioned by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC). It will also be sponsored by the Guyana TV Network.

Peter Abdool, President of the GBBC, hailed a “new era” in Guyana’s boxing history, noting, “We haven’t had a title fight of this level in Guyana before.”

With the card slated to be held at the ECC ground, Abdool explained that the GBBC had previously viewed the facility as a potential venue but is now realising that idea.

The main event will pit two of Guyana’s most prolific boxers in recent history, Marques and Dharry, for the WBA’s Super Flyweight Gold title. In the bigger scheme of things, win or lose, a Guyanese boxer will challenge for a world title following the eventual outcome.

Seon Bristol, of Briso Promotions, is also a part of the staging of ‘Fight Night Guyana’ and promised a show like no other seen before. Lending added visibility to the event will be the live-streaming of the card via the Guyana TV Network, an online streaming platform.

In his last fight last year at “The Return of the Scorpion,” held at the Providence National Stadium, Dharry emerged champion of his eight-round bantamweight main event against Colombian Ronald Ramos, pulling off a unanimous decision verdict.

Meanwhile, Marques rebounded from a 2022 loss on the same card and scored a dominant knockout of Colombian Luis Carrillo, who went down 1:03 in round four of their eight-round Super-Bantamweight clash.

Guyana’s young rising star Keevin Allicock and relatively unknown Stefan DaSilva will also feature on the card.
